Masca Village & Gorge

Masca sits in a fold of the Teno massif at around 650m, accessible by a single-lane road that winds through some of the most dramatic scenery on the island. The village is small, mostly preserved, and surrounded by ravines that drop toward the sea.

What to do there

The village itself is a 30-minute wander. Stone houses, a small church, a couple of places selling coffee. Most people come for the gorge walk — a 3-hour descent to the coast where a boat picks you up. You need to book the boat in advance and arrange a lift back to your car.

If hiking isn’t the plan, just driving the road and having lunch in the village is worth the trip on its own.

Practical tips

• Leave Los Gigantes before 9am to avoid tour buses on the road
• The gorge walk is moderately strenuous — proper footwear essential
• Lunch spots in the village fill up fast; arrive early or late
• The drive back via Santiago del Teide gives you a different view of the landscape
